Paper quilling is a decorative art that has been around for centuries, and its popularity has recently surged. The practice involves rolling, looping and forming thin strips of colorful paper into elaborate designs. The art can also be textured to create a more realistic look, or even 3D for more visual appeal.
While the basic tools required for paper quilling are simple, it takes time to perfect the craft. It’s best to begin with a small project like a flower or an outline to gain experience and confidence in your skills before moving on to larger, more intricate projects. Using pre-cut paper, which can be purchased at most craft stores and online, is recommended for beginners. These papers come in a variety of colors and widths. The ideal thickness is medium, a little thicker than traditional printer paper but not as heavy as cardstock.
Once the desired shape is achieved, dab a small amount of glue onto the tail end (or end of the strip). Then, place the coil where it will be on the final project and allow to dry. Repeat as needed to complete the design. When the design is completely dry, consider framing it – a shadow box works well for this purpose. Paper Quilling Art
